1.4. Installation Mode

Select New installation or Update an existing system. Updating is only possible if a SUSE LINUX system is already installed. If this is the case, the installed system can be booted with Boot installed system. If the installed system fails to boot, perhaps because some important system configuration has been corrupted, you can try to make the system bootable again with Repair installed system. If no SUSE LINUX system is installed, you can only perform the new installation. See Figure 1.3. “Selecting the Installation Mode”.

The following sections describe the procedure of installing a new system. Detailed instructions for a system update can be found in 2.3.4. “System Update”. A description of the system repair options can be found in 5. System Repair.
